Household Energy Upgrades Fund
The Household Energy Upgrades Fund is a $1 billion initiative designed to help Australian households finance energy-efficient home upgrades, including modern air conditioning systems. Through partnerships with lenders, this program provides discounted green loans and low-cost finance options to make upgrading to a high-performance air conditioner more affordable.
How it works:
- Secure a green home loan or low-interest financing through a participating lender.
- Use the funds to upgrade to an energy-efficient air conditioning system that meets eligibility requirements.
- Benefit from lower energy bills, improved cooling performance, and a reduced carbon footprint.
Who can apply:
- Homeowners with or without a mortgage.
- Rental property owners and strata properties.
- Existing homes or knock-down/rebuild projects.
GES Energy supplies and installs approved air conditioning systems that qualify for energy efficiency financing, helping households access affordable cooling solutions while cutting energy costs long-term.
ActewAGL Heating & Cooling Upgrade
ACT residents with an ActewAGL electricity plan can access significant discounts on upgrading to a reverse-cycle air conditioning system. Homeowners can receive $2,500 off the purchase and installation of a ducted reverse-cycle system, or $1,250 off when replacing a flued gas heater with a reverse-cycle air conditioner. Additionally, a $500 electricity bill credit is applied over three years, paid at $41.67 per quarter. These upgrades help improve energy efficiency, reduce heating and cooling costs, and minimise energy loss with insulated ducting.
To qualify for this incentive, you must:
- Live in the ACT.
- Have an electricity plan with ActewAGL.
- Currently use a ducted gas heater or a flued gas heater.
Homeowners can access this incentive by requesting a quote from an approved installer for the supply and installation of a new reverse-cycle air conditioning system.

These loans provide a fee-free, interest-free way to finance the purchase and installation of a new air conditioning unit, allowing homeowners to improve comfort while reducing long-term energy costs. With loans of up to $2,000 for essential appliances, this program makes it possible to switch to a modern, energy-efficient cooling system without the burden of upfront payments.
To be eligible for a no-interest loan, applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:
